- After using the flame for Havdalla, extinguish it and reuse it for another mitzva – the ner Chanuka. Once it is lit first for ner Chanuka, you may not use it for Havdalla. (ShA – MB )
- Do not veer from the minhag in shul to light ner Chanuka before saying Havdalla. If you forgot to add “…atta chonantonu…” in Shemoneh Esray, say “Hamavdil bain kodesh I’chol* before kindling the Chanuka lamps. (ShA – MB , )
