Siman 166 – Interruption between washing hands and breaking bread

  1. Be careful, l’chatchila, after washing your hands (even without a beracha) not to make the following interruptions before eating:
    1. Distracting activities e.g. filling a cup of hot water.
    2. Speaking even a little bit (except where necessary for the seuda).
    3. Divray Torah.
    4. Delaying after drying for more than the time it takes to walk 22 amos.
    5. Walking to a different building.(ShA – MB 2,4,5 – ShaH 1)
  1. If you did interrupt, you do not need to wash again. (MB 6)
  1. You are allowed to delay while waiting for someone to bring salt. (MB Siman167:29)
  2. It is proper to recite the Mizmor “Hashem Roi” (Psalm 23) after eating from the Hamotzi. (MB 3)
