Some places have a minhag to say the 13 Midos of Rachamim and Viduy on Mondays and Thursdays before V’hu Rachum. (MB1)
V’hu Rachum must be said standing, with kavana, and not in a hurry. It can be said out loud to enhance your kavana or silently like Shemoneh Esray. (ShA1 – MB2,5)
Kayl Erech Apayim (said after Chatzi Kaddish) must be said standing since it includes a vidui – “chatasi”. (MB4)
If you end V’hu Rachum before the chazzan, do Nefillas Apayim right away – do not wait for the chazzan. (MB5 – ShaT1)
There is a minhag to fast on Mondays and Thursdays because they are y’may ratzon. Moshe Rabaynu ascended Har Sinai to receive the second Luchos on a Thursday and he descended with them on a Monday. That is the same reason why we have extra supplications on Mondays and Thursdays. (Rama1 – MB6)
Before taking out the sefer Torah say Chatzi Kaddish. On a day that there is Musaf, say Kaddish Tiskabale instead. (MB9)
There is a mitzvah to see the sefer Torah being brought out and in. Even if you are standing outside the shul, go in and join the crowd to give more glory for the King. (MB10)
The minhag is to say Breich Sh’may when removing the sefer Torah whether on a weekday or on Shabbos. You can say it until they open the sefer Torah to read from it. (MB13)
Hold the sefer Torah on your right side, and lift it 3 times: when saying “Sh’ma…” “Echod…”, and “Gadlu…” (Rama2 – MB13)
The kahal should recite “Rom’mu…”, “Av horachamim…”, and on Shabbos and Yom Tov add “Al hakol yisgadal…”. When the first oleh arrives to read, we say “Boruch shenosan Torah…” (Rama2)
Minhag Ashkenaz is to do hagboh after Krias Hatorah. (MB8)
The magbiah first unrolls the sefer Torah 3 columns and then lifts it. He turns towards his right and does a 360º turn (similar to a cohen during N.K.) showing the written surface of the sefer Torah to the people standing on his sides, in front, and in back of him. (ShA2 – MB8,9)
There is a mitzvah upon all men and women to see the writing, bow and to say “V’zos hatorah…” “Toras Hashem t’mimah…”. Do not say “V’zos Hatorah…” until you see the writing. (ShA2 – MB12)
It is good to get a close enough view that you can read the writing. The mekubalim write that you draw to yourself a great light by doing so. (MB11)
Upon returning the sefer Torah on Shabbos morning say “Hovu Lashem bnay ailim…”. At Mincha, Yom Tov, and weekdays replace it with Mizmor 24. (MB14)
