- When Yom Tov is near and you are aware of a certain job that needs to be done, make sure to complete it before Yom Tov. Alternatively, plan to finish it after Yom Tov is over. (Rama )
- When involved in melacha to save yourself from financial loss, be as discreet as possible. (ShA – BeH “v’chayn”)
- If the financial loss will be excessive, you are allowed to increase your tircha. (MB )
- You aren’t allowed to arrange your merchandise, unless it will otherwise depreciate in value. (ShA )
- If you intentionally schedule a job for Chol Hamoed, even if it was to avoid financial loss, you get penalized by not being allowed to perform it. If you transgressed and performed it already, Bais Din will make hefker any product of the melacha. This penalty does not apply to the inheritors of the transgressor. (ShA – MB )
