  1. It is forbidden to do a melacha (e.g. printing books) which is not necessary for Yom Tov, just to generate funds to pay workers on a payroll. The need to pay idle workers is not considered dovor ha’avaid. (ShaT *)
  1. You are allowed to do melacha in a normal way to avoid financial loss. However, minimize your tircha as much as possible. If the chance of loss is likely, we are lenient. If the chance of loss is unlikely you should be machmir. (ShA – BeH “davar”)
  1. Jobs that involve excessive exertion are permitted on C.H. for ochel nefesh and for machsheeray ochel nefesh. (MB )
  1. Irrigating crops for maintenance is allowed. However, irrigating crops to improve them is not allowed unless you will be eating them on the Moed. (ShA , )
  1. Pests who are damaging your property may be trapped in the normal way. (ShA )
  1. If a gentile voluntarily does melacha gemura on Yom Tov for the sake of a Jew, it is forbidden to give him wages, even after the fact. Rather, you must protest against his actions. (MB – ShaH 40) #
