- You may use the flame of a mitzva lamp to light another mitzva lamp. Do so directly; avoid using a non-mitzva wick (or match) to transfer the flame. (MB )
- Example of mitzva lamps are Shabbos lights, shul lights, Chanuka lights etc. The shamash of the shul’s Chanuka menorah is also a mitzva lamp, whereas the shamash of a menorah at home is not. (MB , )
- Relighting a blown-out Chanuka lamp is a secondary mitzvah. Do not relight a blown-out lamp from the other mitzvah lamps. (MB )
- Since the main mitzva of Chanuka is only the first lamp, you shouldn’t light the second lamp from the first. Certainly do not light a shamash from the mitzva lamps. (Rama – MB )
