Siman 432 – The Beracha for Bedikas Chometz

  1. It is good to wash your hands before the beracha. (MB )
  1. Bless ‘asher kid’shonu b’mitzvosov v’tzivonu al biur chometz’. (ShA )
  1. Do not speak until you begin searching. It is best not to speak at all during the bedika. Matters pertaining to the search are permitted to be spoken, even lechatchila. (ShA MB )
  1. Make one beracha for many buildings. Travelling to other buildings is not considered a hefsek. (ShA MB )
  1. You may enlist the help of others to spread out and search for the chometz. Lechatchila the searchers should be Jewish males over bar mitzvah. You may not rely on non-Jews. (ShA MB )
  1. Do not send people to help search who did not hear your beracha — unless it is difficult for you to finish the search by yourself. (MB )
  1. The minhag Yisroel is to distribute ten pieces of hard chometz (each less than a kezayis) to places that will be found by the searchers. This minhag is especially important nowadays that we customarily clean the whole house before the 14th of Nissan. Be careful not to lose any one of the pieces. (MB , — ShaH12 — ShaT7)
