Siman 429 – The Month of Nissan

  1. From the day of Purim itself, which is thirty days before Pesach, we begin to be involved in Hilchos Pesach. The poskim disagree whether this applies before every other Yom Tov. (ShA MB , )
  1. All agree that on the Yom Tov itself, derashos about laws of that Yom Tov should be held. (MB )
  1. There is also a custom to have a drasha on Shabbos Hagadol and on Shabbos Shuva. There must be practical halachic content in both derashos. (MB )
  1. Every city should have a collection to provide the needs of Pesach for the poor. (Rama )
  1. During the month of Nissan there is no Tachanun, Tzidkoscho Tzedek, Tziduk HaDin, Hazkoras Neshomos, nor Yehi Ratzon after Krias haTorah. (ShA MB , )
  1. We do not fast nor are any eulogies held. (ShA )
  1. The only ones that fast are a bride and groom on their wedding day, and for a bad dream. (Rama MB )
  1. It is good to read the parsha of the corresponding nassi each day from the start of Nissan. On the 13th of Nissan read from the beginning of Baha’alos’cha until the possuk — ‘kayn osso es hamenorah.’ (MB )
  1. From erev Pesach throughout Pesach we do not say Mizmor L’soda, Kayl Erech Apayim, nor Lam’natzayach. (Rama )
  1. Wake up early to shul on erev Pesach to finish your chometz meal before four hours. (MB )
