וChelek 6

  1. We say Ashray and Uva Letzion before Neila. (Rama )
  1. Neila should begin while the sun is still shining on the tree tops and should end by tzais hakochavim. Never-the-less you can rely on the opinion that allows Neila to extend into the night. (ShA MB )
  1. If you will be saying the poem Hayom Yifneh after dark, change it to past tense: “Hayom ponoh, hashemesh boh ufonoh”. (ShaH 6)
  1. Arouse yourself very much for this tefilla for it is the pinnacle of the entire 10 Days of Teshuva and the last chance. Therefore even if you are feeling weak from hunger, gird yourself to daaven with clear thoughts and to accept upon yourself sincerely your teshuva resolutions. (MB )
  1. The following words must be changed for Neila: 1. kosvaynu to chosmaynu.
    1. uchsov to vachasom.
    2. v’nikosayv to v’naychasaym. (Rama MB )
  1. The Aron is open for the entire tefilla. (MB )
  1. Say “Na’aritzcha” for Kedusha just like by Musaf. (MB )
  1. Say Sim Shalom. The chazzan should add the replacement for Birkas Cohanim: “Elokaynu vaylokay avosaynu…” even if it is already night time. (MB )
  1. Say Ovinu Malkaynu even if it is Shabbos and not yet dark. (Rama MB )
  1. At the end of Selichos say Shema Yisroel once, Boruch Shaym three times, and seven times Hashem Hu HaElokim. (ShA )
  1. After the Kaddish that’s after Neila, one tekia is sounded as a signal for the departure of the Shechina. (Rama MB )
  1. According to Tosfos, the reason for the tekia is to show that it is a Yom Tov now, and to have a big seuda. Therefore each person should greet his friend “Yoma Tava” as they leave shul. (ShaH16)
  1. After the tekia the minhag is for the chazzan and the kahal to proclaim “L’shana haba’a biYrushalayim!”. (MB )
