- If one end of a long object (e.g. a scroll) rolls away from you into a different reshus leaving the other end in your hands, are you allowed to wind it back into the reshus where you are standing? Mid’oraisa yes, since the object did not come to rest fully in the other reshus. However, the Chachomim decreed not to – lest you come to carry it back in a case where the entire object rolled away. - Let’s say one end of a long sheet rolled out of the window and is dangling over the Reshus Horabbim, as long as it stays above 10 tefachim from the ground, you are allowed to roll it back in. If the sheet is dangling over a Karmelis, as long as it stays three tefachim above the ground, you are allowed to roll it back in. Less than three tefachim from the ground is considered resting on the ground and you are not allowed to roll it back up. (MB , , )
