- The mitzva of Lulav is during the daytime only. You should wait until sunrise. Some people are mehadar to say a beracha on the Lulav at sunrise and wave the species in a suka. Later, at Hallel, they wave it more. (ShA – MB )
- In case you need to travel early, you can take the Lulav and wave it as early as dawn. Some achronim pasken that the Eastern horizon must be lit up. (ShA – MB )
- If you didn’t take the Lulav in the morning, you can still take it all day with a beracha until sunset. After sunset, take the Lulav without a beracha until tzais hakochavim. (ShA – MB – ShaH 1)
- The men of ancient Yerushalayim would hold their Lulavim during their daily activities. Today, it would look arrogant to do this. Nevertheless, even these days, to walk to and from shul holding your Lulav shows an endearment to the mitzva. (MB )
- You may not have a meal before taking your Lulav. A snack is okay if you really need it. (ShA – MB )
- If you are waiting for someone to bring you a Lulav, and you are feeling weak, you don’t have to wait to eat. That person will remind you to do your mitzva. (MB )
