Siman 444 – Erev Pesach that falls out on Shabbos

הChelek 5

  1. When Erev Pesach falls out on Shabbos, we don’t do the bedikas chometz on Shabbos, rather on Thursday night (13th of Nissan). Recite the beracha before the search, and right after the bedika say the bittul as always. (ShA – MB )
  2. Destroy all the chometz on Friday, but leave over two meals worth of chometz. One meal for Friday night and another meal to eat on Shabbos morning before the fourth hour. You can actually leave over more chometz to be eaten on Friday. Whatever chometz you do leave over must be kept hidden from those who would want to take the chometz to places that have already been searched and clean for Pesach. (ShA – MB – BeH “um’shaiyrin”)
  3. We may not eat matza the entire day. We may not eat chometz after the fourth hour. We may not eat filling-foods after the 10th hour begins. So how should we fulfill Shalosh Seudos?
    1. Eat matza ashira that was kneaded with pure fruit juice before the 10th hour.
    2. The Rama says that we do not customarily eat matza ashira. Therefore, we can fulfill the third meal by eating fruit. And even better, by eating meat or fish. These have no time restrictions, just be careful to eat only a little bit, not to ruin your appetite for the Seder.
    3. Eat knaidlach before the 10th hour. The Gr”a holds that according to the Rambam, eating cooked matza is also forbidden the entire day.
    4. The Gr”a says that it is proper to split the morning meal into two. You end up having Shalosh Seudos in the morning with bread before the fourth hour. It’s good to do this also. Be careful to have a significant break in between the two meals so that it doesn’t come out that you are blessing unnecessarily. (ShA – MB , , – ShaH 1)
  4. On this special Shabbos, we rise early for daavening and we don’t prolong it. This way, everyone will be able to have time for at least one chometz meal. (MB )
  5. When destroying the chometz on Friday, it is best to do it at the end of the fifth hour to make it the same as every other year. Bittul is not called for at this point, rather do the final bittul on Shabbos day when you finish eating all of your chometz. This applies, even though there is no more chometz in the house. (ShA , – MB , )
  6. Do not prepare a chometzdik pot of food for this Shabbos. It sticks to the pot and you won’t be able to clean it. Rather prepare hot Pesachdik food to eat. (ShA – MB , )
  7. After the chometz meals have been eaten, shake the crumbs from the tablecloth onto the floor. They will be trampled like dirt underfoot. It is still better to sweep the floor. (ShA – MB )
  8. Any leftover bread can be removed from your house by instructing a gentile to take it out. Giving a gift is allowed for the mitzva of getting rid of chometz. Carrying into the street is allowed based on the opinion that it is a karmelis. Shvus d’shvus bimkom mitzva. Do not leave over a large volume for the goy to take out. (MB , )
