- Professional construction is forbidden on C.H. unless it is to protect yourself from theft or other financial loss (e.g. repairing a property wall that was breached on C.H.). (ShA – MB )
- Imagine your front door broke before Yom Tov. You should get it fixed before Yom Tov. If you forgot, you can have it fixed professionally on C.H. as long as you do not deliberately schedule the repair for C.H. Even temporary, non-professional repairs are forbidden to schedule on C.H. (ShA – MB , )
- As implied, if you wrongly scheduled a repair on C.H., you must suffer the consequences by leaving yourself prone to theft or other financial loss. This penalty does not apply if your life would be at risk. (MB – ShaH 7)
- A wall that is in danger of falling and causing injury may be demolished and repaired in a professional manner. (ShA )
- In general, a melacha that is allowed to do l’tzorech hamoed must be done with a shinui. However, if the melacha requires no exertion or if it is for ochel nefesh (or even machsheeray ochel nefesh), you are allowed to do it normally. (MB , , )
- An example of machsheeray ochel nefesh is – professionally sharpening a knife. (MB )
- If a window broke letting in cold air, you are allowed to fix it. (See ShaH 16 if you can fix it professionally.) A person who is cold is considered sick. (MB )
