- The Baal Tokaya must stand for the berachos and for the blowing. (ShA – MB )
- Nowadays the minhag has become that the tzibor also stands for the tekios blown before Musaf. (MB )
- The custom is to blow next to the bima where they read the Torah. (Rama )
- Before blowing, the tokaya recites two berachos: “lishmoa kol shofar” and “shehecheyanu.” (ShA )
- If you can manage to blow on the right side of your mouth, and have the opening of the shofar be on the right and facing up, its best. (Rama – MB )
- The chazzan should not be the Baal Tokaya unless he is sure he won’t get mixed up or unless he daavens from a machzor. (ShA – MB )
- The custom is for someone to call out the sounds to the Baal Tokaya word for word so the Baal Tokaya does not make a mistake. (Rama )
- The caller and the Baal Tokaya should learn well the laws so they know what to do if a mistake happens. (MB )
