Siman 543 – Employing non-jews

  1. Like Shabbos and Yom Tov, it is forbidden to instruct a gentile to do work for you on C.H. Unlike Shabbos, and Yom Tov, you are allowed to instruct him to do melacha for the sake of a mitzva. (ShA MB )
  1. You may not hire a non-jew to do melacha for you to be paid hourly or daily. However, you may contract him before the Moed for a job that he works on at his home, as long as you do not instruct him to do it on the Moed – and never for a construction job. (ShA MB )
  1. Unlike on Shabbos and Yom Tov, on C.H. you are allowed to verbally arrange for an employee to work for you after the Moed. If the worker is a gentile, be sure to stipulate that he does not begin the work until after Yom Tov. If despite this, he begins the job right away, you do not need to protest. (ShA MB ) #
