- A sukka which is under 2 levels of schach is kashera as long as the upper level is not a kasher sukka. So, if there is less than 10 tefachim between the levels, or the top level does not have a sturdy floor (i.e. the bottom level schach cannot support pillows and mattresses on top of it) the bottom sukka is kashera. In such a case the 2 levels of schach can even combine to provide sufficient shade (i.e. each level has insufficient shade on its own) for the bottom. (ShA )
- The minimum sturdiness of a sukka kashera is one that can withstand common winds which blow on the ground level. If it can, then it is kashera even if the sukka stands in a place where there are commonly stronger winds (e.g. on top of a wagon or boat). (ShA )
- A sukka built in a tree is okay, just do not go into it on Yom Tov because you are not allowed to use or lean upon trees connected to the ground on Yom Tov. (ShA – MB )
- L’chatchila, do not use the branches of a living tree to support your schach directly. The supports should be of kasher schach material. (MB )
- A sukka leaning partially on a tree can be used on Yom Tov only if you were to take away the tree and the sukka would remain standing. Be sure not to use the tree as an access to the sukka on Yom Tov. (ShA – MB )
