הChelek 5
- The mitzva of Tashbisoo is to make your chometz irretrievable in any way. The minhag is to burn it on a fire to fulfil the opinion of Rabi Yehuda. (ShA — Rama — MB )
- Although this mitzva begins anytime within 30 days before Pesach, it is preferable to reserve chometz to burn on the morning of erev Pesach just before your second bittul. (Rama — MB , )
- Use your old hoshanos to fuel the burning of the chometz. (MB )
- Do not crumble the chometz and throw it into your fish pond because you will be deriving benefit from feeding your fish. (MB )
- If you have an arrangement to feed your non-Jewish servants as part of their salary, you may not allow them to eat any chometz in your house on Pesach. People may suspect you of paying off your food debts with chometz. (MB )
- If you give away your chometz to a non-Jew before the sixth hour, you will not need to destroy it. But because you will not fulfil the mitzva of Tashbisoo by giving it away, you should leave yourself at least one kezayis to burn. (ShA — MB )
- When burning the chometz make a separate fire for it. Do not burn it in a wood stove or oven. (MB )
