You aren't allowed to use an instrument/kli or to do an action with your hands to make a sound for simcha and song. The reason is that you may eventually come to fix an instrument.(ShA 1 – MB 1)
Included in this prohibition is to set up a contraption on Shabbos for white noise to lull a person to sleep (unless he is sick). However, to set a contraption to wake someone up is allowed.(MB 1)
Drawing attention by making noise is allowed as long as you do not use an instrument specialized to draw attention. Therefore, knocking on a door with your fist or a spoon is allowed, but do not use a door knocker.(ShA 1 – ShaH 4)
Sounding out a rhythm is ossur.(ShA 1)
Whistling a tune on Shabbos is allowed because using your mouth is not considered a maaseh.(Rama 1- MB 3)
Do not use a tuning fork on Shabbos.(MB 4)
If there is a bell that makes a sound attached to the door, be sure to remove it before Shabbos. If you forgot, you can rely on the opinion that holds as long as you don't have intention to sound the bell you can open it.(MB 6)
You are allowed to bang on the bima in order to silence people, as long as you do not use an instrument specially made for this purpose.(MB 7)
Since the prohibition of playing musical instruments is only midrabbonon, you are allowed to instruct a gentile to play music at a Shabbos chupa. It’s shvus d’shvus bimakom mitzva i.e. simchas chosson v’kalla is not complete without music. Certainly to arrange the musician before Shabbos is acceptable even for other joyous occasions like Simchas Torah or a seudas Bris.(ShA 2 – MB 8,10)
Many poskim hold that it is an issur Torah to wind a stopped clock. You aren't even allowed to wind it while it is still ticking. However, you are allowed to set a grandfather clock in motion before Shabbos even though it will chime the hour on Shabbos.(ShA 3 – MB 15)
Be careful not to shake a stopped watch on Shabbos to make it begin ticking again. (MB 15)
Do not play marbles directly on the floor lest you come to level a playing ground. First put down a sheet or mat. Alternatively you may play on a table.(ShA 5 – MB 20)
The Rama permits playing chess on Shabbos but the Mishna Berura brings poskim who forbid it even during the week.(Rama 5 – MB 21)
Betting games for money are not allowed on Shabbos under the ban of commerce. Do not protest against women and children who will not listen.(Rama 5)
If a ceiling is leaking clean water (i.e. clean enough for an animal to drink), you can put a bucket underneath to catch the water. If it becomes full you may empty the bucket and return it to its place.(ShA 8)
Rain is not muktza.(MB 30)
If a ceiling is leaking dirty water, you aren't allowed to put a bucket underneath. This is because the bucket will become immovable with the muktza water in it – and you aren't allowed to purposely make a vessel muktza on Shabbos. Although a graaf shel ree is allowed to be moved out of the living area, ain osin graaf shel r’ee l’chatchila. The Tur argues and allows the bucket to be put under the dirty water. You can rely on the Tur in a case of great need. We rely on the Tur when washing neggel vasser and mayim achronim into a basin.(ShA 8 – BeH “ossur”)
