- If you find someone willing to sell meat on Yom Tov and you pay later, there is a way that you can buy it to fulfil simchas Yom Tov. You can’t mention a price – like “Sell me a piece worth 20 dollars”. However you may say “sell me five pounds of meat”. (ShA – MB , )
- You aren’t allowed to put meat upon a scale on Yom Tov even to measure for a recipe. If you do not know how much the meat weighs, you may estimate by weighing the meat held in your hand. (ShA – MB )
- The above method of estimating is forbidden for a professional butcher when selling meat on Yom Tov. (For himself at home it is okay.) If the butcher knows the size of the desired weight, he may deliberately cut the meat to that size. (ShA – MB )
- You are allowed to cut a hole to hang the Afikomen – even with a knife. Just do not intend to make a circle or Magen Dovid. (MB )
