- During the search, any chometz that you want to keep until tomorrow must be contained. Either flip a wide container over the chometz, hang it, or put it in a box in a place inaccessible to mice or children. (ShA — MB , , )
- Immediately after the search, declare hefker any unknown chometz like the dust of the ground. (ShA )
- Any known chometz is either eaten or burned before the 6th hour of erev Pesach. After it is burned, declare another bittul also before the 6th hour. (ShA — Rama )
- The bittul should be said in an understandable language. If you do not understand the traditional Kol Chamira, but you know that you are doing a bittul, it works bedieved. (Rama — MB )
- At the daytime bittul say: ‘…that I have seen and that I have not seen — that I have destroyed and that I have not destroyed…’ (ShA )
