Siman 443 – Chometz on Erev Pesach

  1. From the beginning of the fifth hour on Erev Pesach, chometz becomes forbidden to eat but you may still benefit from it. From the beginning of the sixth hour it becomes forbidden to benefit from as well. Therefore cease feeding it to birds and animals, stop selling it to non-Jews, and have it all destroyed before the beginning of the sixth hour. (ShA1)
  1. Even the chometz of a non-Jew becomes forbidden to benefit from, and therefore it is forbidden to intentionally whiff the hot bread of a non-Jew. (Rama1 — BiH)
  1. If you happen to have another Jew’s chometz in your possession you must destroy it before the sixth hour, unless you can arrange a sale of it to a non-Jew. (ShA2)
