- A sukka does not need to be made for the purpose of the mitzvah. A sukka that is made for shelter before 30 days from the Chag is kasher. However, l’chatchila it is best to make something new and different in the schach in a small area that measures even a tefach square. Alternatively, put the thinnest new piece of schach along the entire length or width of the sukka and that is sufficient. (ShA – MB , )
- A sukka that stays standing from year to year needs to be renewed in the above fashion. Even though it was originally constructed for the purpose of the mitzvah,after Sukos that purpose becomes null and void. (MB )
- If you dwell in a sukka all year round, it becomes your permanent lodgings and is disqualified for the mitzvah. You can fix it by lifting the roof and putting it back down for the purpose of a sukka.(ShA – MB )
