Let the vessels remain in the bubbling water a little bit to let them expel their flavor. (MB4)
The vessel should be aino ben yomo, or if used within the past 24 hours, the hot water should be at least 60x the volume of the vessel. But the minhag is not to rely on 60x water — always check that the vessel is aino ben yomo. (MB4,20)
Do not leave the vessel in the water as the water cools from bubbling — the vessel will reabsorb the flavors in the water. (MB6)
Do not allow the bubbling to calm. If the water cools off from bubbling as a result of putting in a cold vessel, do not remove the vessel until the bubbles begin to rise again. Warn the people in charge not to put the vessels in too fast one after the other. (Rama1 — MB8)
It is proper to station a baal Torah who is an expert at these laws at the hagola procedures. (MB8)
When kashering chometzdig kelim on erev Pesach, be sure to finish the hagola before the fifth hour begins. (ShA1)
Once Pesach begins, hagola does not work — only libun. (Rama1)
Procedure for kashering tables and counters: (1) Scrub them clean. (2) Wait 24 hours and make sure they are completely dry. (3) Pour boiling water on the counter directly from a kli rishon. Do not throw the boiling water from the pot. You can ladle out the boiling water by using a super-heated stone to boil the water again while kashering. (MB20)
Do not put many vessels together in a net and dip the net into the kashering pot. The vessels do not become kashered at the point where they contact one another. (ShA3 — MB21,22)
When grasping a vessel with tongs, make sure to release and grasp the vessel in the boiling water so that all surfaces can be kashered. (ShA4)
The hagola water will eventually turn thick like brine from overuse. Discontinue doing hagola in such water. (Rama5)
A vessel too large to fit into a hagola vat can still be kashered. Boil water in it filled to the top, then drop in a super-heated rock which will make the water spill over the edge. (ShA6)
When you remove the vessel from the hagola vat, it is customary to immediately dip it into cold water. If you did not, it is still kosher. (ShA7 — MB7)
