וChelek 6
- Once your son becomes dexterous enough to do the basic wavings – back and forth, up and down – you must buy him a set of the four kasher species. (ShA – MB – BeH “k’day”)
- This stage of development does not depend upon his age. Your son might not even know how to say the beracha yet – you still need to buy him a Lulav for chinuch. (ShA – MB – BeH “katan”)
- Make sure your son performs the mitzva of taking the Lulav all of the days of Sukos. (MB )
- The Maharshal writes that after you fulfil the mitzva with your own Lulav, you can give it to your son to wave and to bless upon. Just that if he knows how to wave it during Hallel, and you can afford to buy your son his own chinuch-set, it’s better to buy him one so you both can wave Lulavs during Hallel with the tzibbur. (MB )
