וChelek 6
- During the year, people use haddasim for their fragrance. On Sukos, those haddasim that are used for the mitzva are not allowed to be used for their fragrance. They are muktza for the mitzva until Sukos is over. (ShA – MB , )
- This muktza status only begins from the first time you lift the haddasim to do the mitzva. You can whiff them before this. (ShA )
- The Esrog is mainly for eating, during the year. So once it is lifted for the mitzva, you may not eat the esrog. However it is not muktza from sniffing. But since there is a question as to reciting a beracha on sniffing the esrog on Sukos, we do not smell the esrog either, except on Shabbos when no mitzva applies. There are those who hold not to say a beracha on sniffing the esrog – all seven days. (ShA – MB , , )
