Siman 546 – Mixing Simchas

וChelek 6

  1. As a rule we should not overlap two different simchas on one day. This is one of the reasons why we don’t get married on Chol Hamoed. (ShA – MB )
  2. You are allowed to combine 2 different people’s simcha in one event. For example, inviting a poor bride and groom to have their chuppa at the wedding of your own child. (Although we are careful not to have 2 siblings marry at the same event.) (MB )
  3. The Ta”z did not allow a seudas tanoim during Chol Hamoed. If you only serve refreshments, or if the actual tanoim are done before or after the seuda, there is no need to be machmir. (MB – ShaH 5)
  4. Getting together to dance for a new chassan or kalla on Chol Hamoed is permitted. (ShA )
  5. A feast held for a man who remarries his divorcee on Chol Hamoed is permitted. (ShA – ShaH 9)
  6. Technically, it is permitted to marry on erev Yom Tov and to hold the feast on Yom Tov. The Mogen Avraham writes that the minhag in our countries is not to get married at all on erev Yom Tov. (ShA – MB )
  7. A feast for a Bris Mila or Pidyon Haben may be held on Chol Hamoed. (ShA )
  8. Both men and women are forbidden to take a haircut. However a woman may shave other parts of her body on Chol Hamoed. (ShA – MB )
  9. A woman’s (even single) cosmetics are permitted on Chol Hamoed under the category of Ochel Nefesh. This personal grooming generates much joy and is justified even under great tircha. (ShA – MB – BeH “oseh”, “kol”)
