# Siman 650 – Minimum size for Haddas and Arava

וChelek 6

1. The minimum size for the haddasim and aravos is 10 average thumbreadths. The minimum size for a lulav is 13⅓ thumbreadths. Less than this shiur is possul even b’dieved. L’chatchila, your haddasim and aravos should measure 12 thumbreadths. Your lulav should measure 16 thumbreadths. (ShA  – MB , )
2. The above shiurim do not include the leaves of each species that extends above the stem. Measure only the stem. (MB , )
3. According to Kabbala, the spine of the lulav should face you and the face of the lulav outwards. (MB )
4. The 4 species have no maximum size. Some say that the spine of your lulav should always extend one tefach higher than your haddasim and aravos. (ShA )
