# Siman 255 – Preparing a fire on Friday

1. Do not start a fire in the fireplace or wood furnace too close to Shabbos, unless either the fire is sealed in or the fire has caught well. “Caught well” means the flames do not need any more tinder, or when there is just one big log, that the fire has caught on most of the thickness and has spread around most of the circumference .
